How does the SurfNet Broadband modem work?
SurfNet Broadband's high-speed wireless Internet service works with our modems by establishing an Internet connection via SurfNet's fast 3G network. The wireless modem connects to SurfNet's network much like your cellular phone.

I have a phone or device with hotspot capability from Verizon, ATT or Sprint why not use that?
The major carriers do not have sufficient bandwidth to accomodate the influx of tens of thousands of devices during the summer months.  The major carriers experience slow bandwidth and dropped sessions during peak summer months.  Your carrier also has a data plan that will charge you per megabyte once you exceed your plan limit which can result in a very expensive bill.  SurfNet uses a 2nd tier carrier network that is not congested and provides reliable fast bandwidth even during peak summer months.  SurfNet is unlimited data for a fixed price.  You pay one price no surprises.

Will SurfNet work with my iPad or iPhone?
When you rent SurfNet with a Wi-Fi Hot Spot option, it will create a Wi-Fi Network that your iPad, iPhone, or any other Wi-Fi enabled device can connect to.

How does the SurfNet iPad2 and Kindle Fire bundle work?
The SurfNet bundle includes everything you need to stay connected while at the shore.  It includes the SurfNet modem, wi-fi hot spot and iPad2 or Kindle Fire configured to automatically connect to SurfNet's service once you plug in everything and turn it on. Use your own iTunes or Amazon account to download books, music or rent movies or purchase prepaid iTunes or Amazon cards from SurfNet to use while on vacation.  SurfNet can also supply iCloud services if you do not have an iTunes or Amazon account.  You can also connect the iPad2 to your own laptop and sync all of your iTunes content.  After your rental we reset the iPad and Kindle Fire to factory defaults and erase all information on the device. 

We deliver the bundle to your rental property at three delivery windows which you can select so you can sign for the equipment.  Return instructions will be provided in the package.

How do I obtain technical support?
Please call Broadband Customer Service Center at 1-800-274-2538, select option 2 then say "Technical Support".

Can I use the modem on more than one computer?
Yes. You can use our high-speed wireless Internet service on as many different computers as you want. After downloading the software onto each computer, plug in the modem, connect via the Connection Manager and you'll be online. Remember, the modem works with only one computer at a time. For multiple computers at the same time, rent the SurfNet Wi-Fi hot spot also

Can I use the modem on a desktop computer?
Yes, any computer with a USB port.

Can I use the modem on the beach?
While technically it will work, SurfNet does not recommend taking your laptop on the beach as the slightest amount of sand can ruin your computer.  We rent waterproof bags for the iPad and Kindle Fire and recommend you use extra caution if taking these products to the beach as you are responsible for any damage.

Can I expect the same speed as I receive on my home wireless network?
Depending on network congestion and the time of day yes you can reasonably expect the same surfing experience you have on a home wireless network.

Can I stream movies through SurfNet?
While you can stream movies SurfNet will not guarantee a seamless movie experience. We guarantee unlimited web surfing and e-mail access, but can not guarantee large downloads or video streaming.

Can I rent more than one modem in the same week?
Yes, if you have multiple laptops as many families do, you can add multiple SurfNet modems to your order or add a SurfNet Wi-Fi hot spot to your rental

Is SurfNet available from other Realtors in Ocean City?
Yes, SurfNet is available from select realtors in Ocean City, NJ. Check our website for the latest realtor options on the "Partners" page.  We are also now offering service in Sea Isle City.

Is the modem transmission secure?
Yes, the transmission is encrypted for security

Are any CDs or software required?
No, all the software is contained on the SurfNet modem, simply plug it in to the USB port on your computer and follow the simple screen prompts to install.

Does SurfNet work with Windows 7?
Yes, SurfNet Broadband now supports Windows 7

Does SurfNet work with Windows 8?
SurfNet is being tested with Windows 8 at this time.  We will update this page when confirmed.

Is there a download limit on the service?
SurfNet guarantees unlimited web surfing and e-mail access but can not guarantee video streaming services such as NetFlix, YouTube, or large file downloads.

What is a USB wireless modem?
A USB wireless modem is a device that provides Internet access - by connecting to cellular towers, similar to your cellular phone. SurfNet Broadband offers wireless USB modems; all are compact and lightweight, which offers 100% flexibility and mobility to be online at the shore. You can access the Internet from anywhere in SurfNet Broadband's coverage area without cords, cables or worry of finding a Wi-Fi hotspot.

What computers and operating software are the SurfNet Broadband modems compatible with?
SurfNet Broadband Internet service and the USB wireless modems will work on any desktop and/or laptop computer with a USB port. Broadband works on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista 32 & 64 bit, as well as with certain Mac operating systems. At this time, Broadband does not support Linux. Please use the following table to determine compatibility of your SurfNet Broadband device:

Can I use SurfNet Broadband on my desktop computer?
YES. Broadband works with all computers that have a standard USB port. Both desktop and/or laptop computers work with our fast 3G Internet service. And you may use your modem/service on as many computers as you need too, once you have downloaded the software onto the computer (keep in mind, the modem will work with only one computer at a time). If you have Windows 2000, Windows XP or Vista 32 bit or 64 bit, Broadband will work. Specific modems may not work with Vista 64-bit. Broadband now supports Windows 7.

What happens if I don't return the equipment on time?
A late fee of $50 plus $10 per day is assessed for late return and will be billed directly to your credit card on record. Failure to return the SurfNet equipment after 2 weeks will result in an additional charge equal to the full retail value.
